Architecture Library and the Visual Resources Collection

University of Maryland Libraries Overview

UMD has eight libraries, including Architecture, Art, McKeldin, and Hornbake. Students can check out materials with their ID, and course readings are often reserved at Architecture or McKeldin libraries.

Architecture Library: Located on the second floor of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, it offers 24/7 access to students, staff, and faculty for studying, scanning, and checking out books. It houses books, periodicals, a reference section, and Special Collections. Students can request materials from other universities and use study rooms, computer workstations, and scanners. Librarians are available by appointment for research assistance.

Resources:

Elizabeth D. Alley Visual Resources Collection (VRC), Architecture Library

Founded in 1967, the VRC contains slides and digital images of architecture and urban scenes from prehistoric times to the present. Topics include urban design, historic preservation, real estate development, art, and landscape architecture. The collection also includes DVDs, videotapes, lantern slides, and photographs, sourced from photography, scanning, vendors, and donations.

Faculty and students can use the slides for research and request scanning of non-digital items. Materials are for educational use only and subject to copyright restrictions.

Equipment Available: LCD projectors, digital cameras, video cameras, and model photography equipment for class and research use.

MAPP Technology Solutions Center

The Technology Solutions Center (TSC) is your point of contact for reporting IT problems and requesting technology consultation. We offer support surrounding  IT resources, facilities, and client support/training services. The TSC supports three buildings, over 100 machines, and over 100 staff and faculty - including student walk-ins.

Please report all technical problems and IT support requests directly to tsc@umd.edu. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received. Each request is assigned to a TSC staff member, who will research the request and follow up with the requester.
