Medessa Burian
Medessa has more than 20 years of experience in the environmental, public health, and education-related fields. She joined the Environmental Finance Center at the University of Maryland in 2011 and currently serves as Assistant Director. In this role she provides administrative oversight and leadership for the Center, managing its day-to-day operations, staffing, and communications.
Dawn Jourdan
Dr. Dawn Jourdan is Dean of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at the University of Maryland, where she leads an interdisciplinary community of architects, planners, preservationists, and real estate developers committed to shaping more just, vibrant, and sustainable places.
Delaney West
Delaney West is the Senior Program Coordinator for the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, supporting the Historic Preservation (HISP), Urban Studies & Planning (URSP) and Urban and Regional Planning and Design (URPD) programs. She has been with the University since 2017 and is dedicated to supporting students through their academic journeys.
Designing a Resilience Action Plan for Maryland’s Coastal Communities
As Maryland’s coastal communities face increasing climate threats, including rising sea levels and severe storms, this initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of eight vulnerable coastal jurisdictions. The project focuses on addressing climate-related hazards through nature-based solutions (NBS) and enhancing fish and wildlife habitats.
Joseph Williams
Joseph Williams teaches Architectural History in the University of Maryland Architecture Program. He specializes in the architecture of the medieval Mediterranean. His research concerns the economics of church building during the medieval trade boom, the pan-Mediterranean exchange of building techniques, and the role of construction process in medieval design.

Lena Redisch is a Student Services Program Manager where she advises undergraduate students and promotes academic and career development initiatives. Lena is passionate about supporting students as they navigate their college experience and creating meaningful opportunities for them to succeed.

Juan Luis Burke
Juan Luis Burke (PhD, McGill University) is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research explores the early modern history and theory of architecture and urbanism in Mexico, as well as its connections with Spain and Italy, with a particular focus on the intersections of architectural form, urban governance, race, and the politics of empire.
Brian Kelly
Brian Kelly received his B. Arch at the University of Notre Dame in 1981 followed by an M. Arch in Urban Design from Cornell (1987) He taught at The Catholic University of America, Syracuse, and Arizona State before joining the faculty at the University of Maryland (1987). He has published articles on architecture and architectural education.
Michele Lamprakos
Photo: J. M. AyalaTrained as an architect and historian, Michele Lamprakos’s career has combined teaching, research, and practice in architecture, preservation, and community development. Her research focuses on two main themes: the lives and layers of buildings and sites; and the entangled histories of Islam and Christianity in the Mediterranean.
