Sustainable Maryland

EFC is home to the hallmark Sustainable Maryland (SM) program, a free and voluntary initiative that supports Maryland communities in their sustainability efforts. SM helps Maryland communities choose a direction for their sustainability initiatives, improve access to resources needed to implement action, and be recognized for their accomplishments.

The program offers a menu of actions tailored to specific community needs, enabling planning across priorities for multiple benefits. A key component is the Green Team Training, which establishes municipal groups of engaged citizens to promote sustainability initiatives. This platform has empowered communities statewide, leveraging the expertise of municipal officials and staff, students, business owners, and engaged residents for sustainability projects.

Sustainable Maryland is a proud founding member of the national Sustainable States Network.
