Bachelor of Arts in Real Estate and the Built Environment
The Bachelor of Arts in Real Estate and the Built Environment (REBE) is designed for students who want to shape the future of cities, communities and the spaces we live in—while also understanding the financial, political and environmental forces at play.
Our program reaches beyond a business-focused curriculum to include knowledge in construction, policy, urban planning, design, transportation, architecture and landscape design. You’ll get a strong foundation in how the built environment works—along with the tools to lead transformative projects.
From affordable housing to climate resilience, from preserving cultural heritage to designing communities that thrive, a REBE degree prepares you for a career in creating vibrant, just and beautiful places.
Curriculum
Degree Planning
When planning out your degree plan, please remember the following:
- All students must earn a minimum of 120 credits to graduate from the University of Maryland. No exceptions will be made.
- All students must earn a minimum of C- in all courses required for the Architecture or Real Estate in the Built Environment majors. This includes PHYS121 and MATH120 for Architecture, and REBE electives for the REBE major. No exceptions will be made.
- All Gen Ed requirements must be met.

Admissions
Prospective Students
All prospective students must apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If interested in Real Estate Development and the Built Environment, indicate this on your application. For a comprehensive list of the requirements for admission, please see the Office of Undergraduate Admissions website. Freshman and transfer applicants should select “REBE” as their intended major on the application.

Current UMD Students
Current UMD students interested in declaring the Bachelor of Arts in Real Estate and the Built Environment as a primary or secondary major* must complete the following change of major process:
Step 1: Submit the Change Major Request on TerpEngage.
Step 2: Complete Canvas Course
Step 3: Form Completion
Step 4: Meet with an Advisor
Students wishing to earn a double major or a double degree may need additional advising and coordination with the advising office of their other major prior to course registration.
Transfer Students
All transfer applicants should list REBE as your intended major on the application.
Pre-Transfer Advising Program:
The Pre-Transfer Advising program provides support to prospective transfer students from two-year and four-year schools before they apply to the University of Maryland to complete an undergraduate degree. Students are encouraged to use pre-transfer advising services to assess their readiness to transfer and estimate their time to degree completion. Sign up for a pre-transfer advising appointment.
Transfer Credits:
The transfer credit evaluation process usually begins for newly admitted students two weeks after you receive your admission letter. To learn more about this process, please visit the Transfer Credit Services website.
Transfer courses that have already been evaluated can be found in the trransfer database. If you would like to request an evaluation of a course(s) not appearing in the database, simply send an email to transfercredit@umd.edu with your name, UID (if you are a current student), name of the institution where the course was taken, the course ID and course title at the transfer institution, along with a detailed course syllabus.
