
Eric J. Jenkins

ejarch@umd.eduEric Jenkins is a licensed architect and educator. He taught at Florida A&M, Virginia Tech, MICA, and The Catholic University of America (CUA). At CUA he attained tenured (2006) and the rank of Full Professor (2016). He has taught graduate and undergraduate design, theory, and freehand sketching. Additionally, he directed foreign and domestic travel programs in Italy, Spain, Turkey, The Czech Republic, Hungary, The Netherlands, Morocco, and the United Kingdom.
He is the author of two books: To Scale: One Hundred Urban Plans (Routledge) and Drawn to Design: Analyzing Architecture through Freehand Drawing (Birkhauser). He has also published research on Bata Shoe Company towns and architecture.
He has lectured at universities across North America including Clemson University, Georgia Tech, and the University of Minnesota.
Eric is the recipient of several teaching, research and design awards including the University of Maryland's Certificate of Teaching Excellence, CUA's James E. Dornan Memorial Undergraduate Educator of the Year award and the Provost's Award for Excellence in Creative Expression. His design of the Nusonian Homes prefabricated house prototype with Studio 27 Architecture was honored by The Virginia Society of the AIA with a Certificate of Merit for “Excellence in Architecture”. His artwork has been exhibited at the Strathmore Mansion, Waverly Street Gallery, The Circle Gallery and The Capitol Hill Art League.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master in Design Studies from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
