Brian Kelly received his B. Arch at the University of Notre Dame in 1981 followed by an M. Arch in Urban Design from Cornell (1987) He taught at The Catholic University of America, Syracuse, and Arizona State before joining the faculty at the University of Maryland (1987). He has published articles on architecture and architectural education. He served as Director of the Architecture program (1997-2022), and presently as Associate Dean for Development and Faculty Affairs. He has also served as Regional Director of the ACSA (2008-2011) and on the NAAB Board of Directors (2013-16). Kelly is a watercolorist. His work has been shown in a traveling exhibition titled “Lines of Inquiry: The Architectural Drawings of Brian Kelly” (www.linesofinquiry.com). Professionally, he has worked as a campus design consultant to Ayers Saint Gross, Architects + Planners in Baltimore including projects at Harvard, U. of NC Chapel Hill, U. Georgia, Arizona State, and Notre Dame among others. He is currently researching and writing a book on the campus planning work of Jens Frederick Larson, an American architect who was instrumental in the development of campus planning as a distinct design discipline.
