The Starburst: Lighting the Way: Strategy, Sustainability, Inclusion

Home The Starburst: Lighting the Way: Strategy, Sustainability, Inclusion

Fall 2025 Colvin Capstone Competition Winner - First Prize

The Starburst rises at the well-known Starburst intersection in NE DC as both renewal and promise—a luminous mixed-use destination reenergizing a corridor already pulsing with growth. Above dynamic ground-floor retail, 194 appointed residential units and 50 tech-forward hospitality offerings meet strong demand while preserving flexibility across cycles. An academic tenant opportunity underscores the belief that access to education helps generations shine. Sustainability remains central, with targeted LEED Silver certification and advanced strategies supporting long-term value. Elevated exterior spaces amplify the project’s vibrancy, creating layered experiences that foster connection as much as visibility. Anchored on a highly visible corner, The Starburst stands at the convergence of nightlife, local restaurants, walkable streets, and seamless transit— an address poised for durable performance, continued momentum, and a brighter future! The name Starburst itself pays homage to the iconic intersection and plaza that have long defined this place. By embracing a name rooted in the community’s history, the project honors what exists today while charting a new, safe, inclusive, and radiant future—one that shines forward without forgetting the light that came before it.
