To meet Maryland’s nation-leading greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals of net-zero emissions by 2045, the State of Maryland has committed to delivering state-wide and economy-wide climate pollution reduction plans under the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) for Planning. As part of this effort, the State of Maryland is mobilizing local governments and providing support in planning, coordination and action that will ensure all of Maryland’s communities can effectively respond to the climate crisis and transition to a clean energy economy in a robust, equitable, and inclusive way.
The Maryland Local Government Climate Action Support Program assists counties and their municipalities in identifying high priority GHG emissions reduction projects with important social, ecological, and economic co-benefits. The program aims to build capacity across all of Maryland for project planning, design, financing, implementation and tracking. The initial phase of this program specifically targets counties within the State of Maryland that are not covered by an EPA CPRG Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) Planning Grant (identified in green in the map below). EFC is coordinating with MDE to deliver comprehensive services to help build the local capacity of Maryland communities to plan, fund, and implement climate projects and community-based climate-related outreach campaigns. Through project coordination and facilitation, direct technical assistance, education and training, community outreach and engagement, and resource and tool dissemination, EFC is working to build community capacity to take thoughtful and strategic climate actions.
