With support from the Region 3 Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay launched a yearlong graduate fellowship with Morgan State University’s School of Architecture & Planning. Fellows are placed with partner municipalities to lead public outreach and engagement on pre-identified environmental priorities, culminating in an implementation-ready community plan.
This initiative aims to:
- Increase capacity in underserved Maryland municipalities to address environmental challenges.
- Prepare emerging planning professionals to integrate environmental practices into urban planning and related work.
- Expand access to careers in urban planning and stormwater management by helping students build the technical and professional skills needed in these fields.
As a trusted partner to local governments across Maryland, EFC’s Sustainable Maryland program is leading the identification of municipal partners; mentoring municipalities as they develop workplans to support implementation of Fellows’ projects; and helping communities identify and pursue funding and technical assistance to carry the plans forward.
