With support from the Region 3 Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay launched a yearlong graduate fellowship with Morgan State University’s School of Architecture & Planning. Fellows are placed with partner municipalities to lead public outreach and engagement on pre-identified environmental priorities, culminating in an implementation-ready community plan.

This initiative aims to:

  1. Increase capacity in underserved Maryland municipalities to address environmental challenges.
  2. Prepare emerging planning professionals to integrate environmental practices into urban planning and related work.
  3. Expand access to careers in urban planning and stormwater management by helping students build the technical and professional skills needed in these fields.

As a trusted partner to local governments across Maryland, EFC’s Sustainable Maryland program is leading the identification of municipal partners; mentoring municipalities as they develop workplans to support implementation of Fellows’ projects; and helping communities identify and pursue funding and technical assistance to carry the plans forward.
