
Mohammad Gharipour

An ACSA Distinguished Professor, Mohammad Gharipour serves as a Professor, Area Chair, and Director of the Architecture Program at the University of Maryland, USA. He obtained his PhD in architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and design studios at several universities and has received many prestigious awards from the Society of Architectural Historians (2008), National Endowment in Humanities (2015), Fulbright-Hays (2016), Foundation for Landscape Studies (2016), Council of Educators of Landscape Architecture (2016), American Institute of Architects (2018), Fulbright (2019), Architectural Research Centers Consortium (2022), and BIG Ten Academic Alliance (2023). In addition to organizing and chairing more than thirty panels and conferences and publishing more than 140 papers, encyclopedia entries, and reviews, he has authored, edited, and co-edited sixteen books including Persian Gardens and Pavilions (I.B. Tauris, 2013), Health and Architecture (Bloomsbury, 2021), and award-winning Epidemic Urbanism (2022). He has served as a jury for many fellowships, book awards, and design competitions. Dr. Gharipour is the director and founder of the award-winning International Journal of Islamic Architecture (IJIA), the director and co-founder of the Epidemic Urbanism Initiative, and the president of the Society of Architectural Historians.
