Marginalized communities have been inadequately represented or included in the National Register of Historic Places, which historically has prioritized sites associated with dominant cultural narratives. This exclusion is facilitated by insufficient efforts to involve these communities in the preservation and designation processes. Janet's research focuses on helping communities preserve and document their landmarks, heritage, and values through active community engagement and digital documentation tools such as laser scanning and photogrammetry.
