Hiroyuki (Hiro) Iseki is an Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and a Research Affiliate with the National Center for Smart Growth. He currently directs the Urban and Regional Planning and Design (URPD) Ph.D. program at the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.

Iseki's research emphasizes balancing efficiency, effectiveness, and equity in mobility and accessibility, focusing on transportation, land use, and environmental concerns across diverse socioeconomic groups. He is also interested in the institutional dynamics affecting policy implementation at local levels.

He has participated in numerous transportation research projects funded by entities including University of California Transportation Center, Mineta Transportation Institute, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Maryland Department of Transpiration, California Department of Transportation, Social Science Research Council, and Haynes Foundation. His work includes studies on the built environment, transit facilities, and crime in Los Angeles, where he developed a GIS analysis method for bikeshed size determination using energy consumption as travel impedance.

Iseki collaborated on projects evaluating transit service quality at bus stops and train stations with UCLA researchers. His research extends to the effects of metro station accessibility on firm distribution and the development of transit demand models assessing land use changes on Metrorail ridership in DC.

His other projects include analyzing gasoline price impacts on transit ridership, examining transit service quality perceptions, coordinating regional transit services, exploring public-private partnerships in transportation financing, and investigating transportation demand management with a focus on universal transit pass programs.
