Carl Bovill

Carl Bovill has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California Santa Barbara and master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California Berkeley. Carl also has a MArch degree from the University of Hawaii where he earned the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal for excellence in the study of architecture. Professor Bovill teaches materials and methods of construction, environmental control systems, sustainability, and technical system integration in design studio. In collaboration with other faculty, Carl received an American Institute of Architects Education Honors Award in 1995 for the technical integration studio. Carl has also taught at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Prior to teaching, Professor Bovill was a member of Interactive Resources, Inc., an architectural firm in Richmond, California. His publications include Architectural Design, Integration of Structural and Environmental Control Systems, Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1991; Fractal Geometry in Architecture and Design, Birkhauser, 1996; and Sustainability in Architecture and Urban Design, Routledge, 2015.
