
Andressa Carmo Pena Martinez

acpm@umd.eduDr. Andressa C. P. Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Digital Design and Media in the Department of Architecture at the University of Maryland. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Urbanism and a B.S. in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (FAU/UFRJ). With over ten years of teaching experience, she has taught in Brazil and the United States, including appointments at Judson University (where she also directed the Digital Fabrication Lab) and the Federal University of Viçosa. In 2018, she was a visiting scholar at Georgia Tech’s Shape Computation Lab, where she researched shape grammars.
At UMD, Dr. Martinez’s research interests include algorithmic and parametric design, digital fabrication, and, more recently, artificial intelligence. She co-founded the Nó—Lab Research Laboratory at the Federal University of Viçosa, leading a major FAPEMIG grant for the implementation of robotic systems for architectural applications. She serves on the scientific committees of international CAAD conferences, including eCAADe (Education and Research in Computer-Aided Architectural Design in Europe), SIGraDi (The Ibero-American Society of Digital Graphics), and CAAD Futures (biannual International Conference on Computer-Aided Architectural Design).
