Lindsey May Earns AIA/DC’s Inaugural Architectural Educator Award

Home About News and Events News Lindsey May Earns AIA/DC’s Inaugural Architectural Educator Award
Lindsey May

The Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC) and Washington Architectural Foundation (WAF) have awarded Assistant Clinical Professor Lindsey May the distinction of AIA|DC’s 2020 architectural educator. The award is part of AIA|DC’s annual Awards for Great People, which celebrates individuals whose work enhances the Washington region’s built environment. The Architectural Educator Award recognizes an organization or individual for excellence in the advancement of architectural education at all levels (K-12, university and/or post-graduate) through teaching, design, scholarship, research or service. May is the award’s inaugural laureate.

The awards committee lauded May for her deep commitment to both the practice and the pedagogy. She is an award-winning architect and principal of Studio Mayd, a commercial and residential architecture design studio in Washington, D.C. Beyond her practice, she has adeptly extended her creative leadership skills to a number of roles at the University of Maryland, including interim assistant director of the architecture program and as an active member of the Learning Outcomes Committee and the College Coordinators Committee. In addition to the guidance May provides regularly in design studio, she generously mentors students as a faculty advisor for the Women in Architecture group and See/Saw, the architecture program journal.
