Sustainable Maryland honored 16 Maryland municipalities at the Maryland Municipal League’s annual Fall Conference on Monday, October 16. This Awards Ceremony marks Sustainable Maryland's 11th year of helping communities build a more sustainable future.

To date, 89 municipalities, or 57% of the state's 157 towns and cities, participate in the program, and 26% have achieved the "Sustainable Maryland Certified" designation.

The complete list of newly certified (denoted by *) and re-certified communities includes:

  • Bel Air (Silver) (first certified in 2014, re-certified in 2017, 2020, and 2023)
  • Berwyn Heights (Bronze) (first certified in 2014, re-certified in 2017, 2020, and 2023)
  • Boonsboro (Bronze) (first certified in 2014, re-certified in 2017, 2020, and 2023)
  • *Charlestown (Bronze)
  • Chesapeake Beach (Bronze) (first certified in 2014, re-certified in 2017, 2020, and 2023)
  • Chestertown (Silver) (first certified in 2012, re-certified in 2015, 2018, and 2023)
  • Frostburg (Bronze) (first certified in 2017, re-certified in 2020, and 2023)
  • Greenbelt (Silver, 2023 Sustainability Champion) (first certified in 2014, re-certified in 2017, 2020, and 2023)

  • *Kensington (Bronze)
  • Landover Hills (Bronze) (first certified in 2020, re-certified in 2023)
