Architecture students win big at this year's Interschool Design Competition

Home About News and Events News Architecture students win big at this year's Interschool Design Competition

Over the past two decades, the three Washington area chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Washington Architectural Foundation, and the National Building Museum have collaborated to organize the annual Interschool Design Competition. These competitions expose students to the various local architectural curriculums and the architectural profession. Participants in this design competition are students at all levels enrolled in university architecture programs in and around D.C., including the Catholic University of America, Howard University, Morgan State University, the University of Maryland, Virginia Tech and University of the District of Columbia. The competition teams are comprised of one student from each of the DC/MD/VA area architecture schools.

This year, 10 UMD architecture students participated in the competition, which challenged teams to create a dedicated auditorium space at the National Building Museum. Winners were announced at a special awards ceremony held at the National Building Museum on Tuesday September 19, 2017.

The 2017 UMD student competitors are: Hunter Bailey, Oritseweyinmi Dorsu, Amalie ElFallah (third place winner), Allexxus Farley-Thomas, Kaira Farrell, Carlos Gonzalez (first place winner), Samantha Lewis (hon. mention), Njillan Sarre (second place winner), Hannah Stauffer (alternate) and Korhan Yeniceli (alternate).
