Location: Great Space

This event is open to the public

Speaker:

Dr. Caitlin Ahrens
Assistant Research Scientist,
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center ;
University of Maryland

Dr. Caitlin Ahrens, who is part of the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science and Technology at NASA GSFC, will give a presentation involving lunar geotechnical research and the future of lunar architecture.

This presentation explores the emerging concept of lunar architecture, focusing on how we might design and build structures on the Moon. We will delve into strategies for site planning in an extreme, unfamiliar environment, where Earth-based assumptions must be rethought. Key challenges discussed include working with limited geotechnical data, potential hazards from the environment, and the need for adaptable, resilient design solutions in lunar conditions.
