Biography:
Recently completing a 42-year federal government project and program management tenure, Beth L. Savage was the Director of the Center for Historic Buildings in the U.S. General Services Administration, Office of Architecture & Engineering. In this capacity she also served as GSA’s Federal Preservation Officer and was the longest serving representative to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. She led the responsible stewardship of more than 500 buildings providing nearly 60 million square feet of workspace for federal employees throughout the United States, about one-third of which date from the mid-century Modern era and present formidable evaluation, performance and preservation challenges. She came to GSA as the Regional Historic Preservation Officer for the National Capital Region after her long tenure, begun as a graduate student intern, at the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places. There she served as a multi-State liaison and the Managing Editor of the print and online technical and educational publications. Her professional and Board experience includes documenting, assessing, speaking and writing on Modernism and the recent past; federal construction history and stewardship; maritime, roadside and vernacular historic resources; transportation corridors and African American historic places. She was honored by the Secretary of the Interior as the Federal Preservation Officer of the Year and with Service Excellence awards from the GSA Public Buildings Service Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner.
