"Healthy Cities: An Asian Perspective"

About the lecture

Many Asian cities with aging population face healthcare challenges in accessibility and sustainability. This presentation addresses the health challenges due to rapidly ageing population with increased prevalence of chronic and mental diseases, new challenges in pandemic and endemic state with emerging novel infectious diseases, and balancing between development intensification and livability.

The built environmental considerations include the planning and design for well being and age friendly designs:

  • Develop urban planning interventions to integrate social activities and care services
    • Active and Healthy Lifestyles (Behaviors nudges through built environment)
    • How can the built environment to be designed to nudge to adopt more active and healthy lifestyle
    • Achieving balance between accessibility and convenience, while encouraging active behaviors
  • Intentional programming to promote healthy lifestyles, facilitate formation of social networks
  • Apply social sciences to understand how urban design and biophilia can bring therapeutic benefits and promote healthy lifestyles
  • Building and urban design to reduce disease transmission risk, better prepare for future pandemics
  • Role of built environment in balancing high density living and well being

 

About the lecturer: 

Frankie Lim

As the Head of CPG Healthcare, Mr Frankie Lim leads a team that provides creative, innovative, and sustainable health-oriented developments, bringing together the company's breadth and depth of expertise in designing and implementing urban, health, wellness, social, and ecological infrastructure.

Frankie started his career as an architect and has designed and delivered mega public buildings in Singapore such as the New Phoenix Park (2000), Retrofitting of the Environment Building (2003), Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (2010), SGH Academia (2012), Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and Jurong Community Hospital (2015), and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (2018).

Through his extensive experience overseas, which included a 2-year posting to CPG Shanghai, he expanded CPG’s practice to include health-oriented developments in China, India, UAE, Pakistan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. A firm believer in salutogenic design, he has also built up a portfolio of health and wellness developments with environmental concerns.
