Preinkert Hall

Ronit Eisenbach is an architect, artist, curator, and educator whose work intertwines art, design, and architecture to engage dialogue about the environments we create. Her practice explores how perceptions of subjective, invisible, and ephemeral objects influence our understanding of place. At the University of Maryland, she teaches architecture studios, contemporary theory, and courses on the built environment, including interdisciplinary classes co-taught with dance and art faculty. Her new course, "Making Place: Public Art and Design," developed with Sculpture Professor John Ruppert and Urban Planning Professor Gerrit Knapp, is recognized as a "Fearless Ideas Course" by the Academy of Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Eisenbach's work has been showcased at venues like the Detroit Institute of Arts, Cranbrook Art Museum, and the streets of Tel Aviv. Her collaborations with choreographers have resulted in performance/installation works exploring gesture and place, such as "Detroit 300: Fast Forward, Play Back" and "Out of Place." Her research focuses on the relationship between ephemeral works and sites-in-flux. Eisenbach's designs have earned awards from the AIA, ACSA, and ID magazine, supported by foundations like the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Reviews of her work have appeared in prominent publications, including the Journal of Architectural Education and The Washington Post. She co-authored Installation by Architects: Experiments in Building and Design, co-produced a documentary on Ruth Adler Schnee, and curated exhibitions in Venice and UMD’s Kibel Gallery, which she used to direct. A graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Rhode Island School of Design, Eisenbach is a former ACSA Board member and a current National Building Museum Education Committee member, holding fellowships with NYU's Center for Creative Research and other prestigious institutions.
