Adan Ramos

Lecturer, Architecture

a10ramos@umd.edu

Since becoming a student leader in an archeological research project at UMD, Adan has sought to integrate academia and architectural practice. Adan earned a BA in Sustainability and an MA in Real Estate Development in tandem with a BS and MA in Architecture from the University of Maryland. He works to bring forward-thinking development strategies, energy-conserving methods, and history and theory to his work in housing design at a variety of scales. Adan also has experience working as a general contractor and on design-build projects. He believes the pressures the building industry faces today demand practitioners with diverse backgrounds and works to support the interdisciplinary culture at MAPP.

Adan is a repeat faculty member in the foundational studios in the Architecture program, ARCH400 and 401. He works closely with the history and theory committee to integrate the history curriculum into the studio sequence. In addition to studio, Adan teaches ARCH300, Design Media and Representation II, where students develop digital and analog graphic representation skills via drawing, modeling, and analysis of architectural precedents.

Adan also leads a UMD study abroad course and research project, focused on archeological survey and representation of ancient Roman structures in the Bay of Naples, Italy.  The program aims to publish products in a forthcoming online database. Currently practicing in Baltimore, MD, Adan brings an archaeological and anthropological approach to analyzing and designing for historically-underserved communities.
