STABIAE and the Visual Preservation of Architecture

Curated by Joseph C. Williams, Lindsey May, and Lauren McNamara

The recent book THE VISUAL PRESERVATION OF ROMAN STABIAE: THE VILLA ARIANNA SURVEY AND THE STUDY OF FRESCOES IN THEIR PHYSICAL CONTEXT, edited by Joseph C. Williams with contributions by faculty and students from UMD and other institutions, contains new archaeological drawings of the frescoed rooms in the Villa Arianna, an affluent Roman house buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. This exhibition curated by Williams, Lindsey May, and Lauren McNamara celebrates the student drawings and explores the techniques and learning behind them.
