Seventy percent of our work is on historic buildings and sites, and half of our staff meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Historic Architecture and Architectural History. Our expertise comes from decades of researching and designing buildings for historically and culturally sensitive sites and functional uses. We have extensive experience with the renovation of historic buildings in Hawaii, with their unique design characteristics, materials, and construction methods. Five or more years of experience, and a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a related field is preferred. Thorough knowledge of architectural history, building documentation methods, building materials, and state and national register guidelines for evaluating historic structures. Some project management experience preferred. Responsible for independent completion of HABS/HAER, NRs, and ILS/RLSs, as well as completing tasks to support other deliverable types. These could include; coordinating with client to initiate and complete field work (documentation/photography), performing field work, research, writing historical background and context for buildings or groups of buildings, building descriptions, and evaluating historic significance and integrity. Graphic support and mapping as needed.
