University of Mary Washington
The Center for Historic Preservation at UMW served as the institutional base for the VSH project from its inception in 2007 until 2017, and hosted the web page from 2009 until 2020.

The mission of EV is to provide a free, reliable, multimedia resource that tells the inclusive story of Virginia for students, teachers, and communities who seek to understand how the past informs the present and the future.

VSH has worked with EV since 2010 to provide content on slavery and slave housing in Virginia for the EV web page. To date, EV has photographed 24 slave buildings using Google Street View to offer online tours of the sites.

Pogue and Sanford authored an EV entry on Slave Housing.

Warrenton Antiquarian Society
The Antiquarians operate the Weston historic site in Fauquier County as an educational facility focused on telling the story of the inhabitants, black and white, of the former plantation.

VSH has consulted with the Antiquarians to document, preserve, and restore the former slave quarter for interpretive educational purposes.


Clermont Trust
The Trust operates the state-owned Clermont historic site, in Clarke County, Virginia.
VSH has consulted with the Trust to document, preserve, and restore the former slave quarter for interpretive educational purposes.

Stafford County, Virginia
In 2015 the Stafford County planning department initiated a comprehensive survey of slavery related sites in the county.

VSH contributed to the survey by documenting six likely slave quarters and preparing a contextual overview of the character of slave housing in the county and around the commonwealth.


Oatlands Plantation, National Trust for Historic Preservation
In 2018 the National trust awarded a grant from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund to support research to document and interpret the history of slavery at the former Oatlands plantation historic site.

VSH surveyed and documented the extant slave buildings and prepared a comprehensive report of the findings.
