Responsibilities

The Transportation Planner 2 is a working lead position with responsibilities to conduct complex tasks in transportation planning studies, programs and related activities. This position will be located within the Support Services Unit and will report to a Transportation Supervising Planner or employee of a higher level.

This Transportation Planner 2 is a supervisory role which will go hand-in-hand with determining the priorities and plans for the unit's work. In this role, duties include but, are not limited to:

  • Handling staff management procedures, including: scheduling, overseeing assignments, staff training, performance evaluations and more;
  • Developing and make recommendations for policies and standards;
  • Acting as a liaison between different federal and state stakeholders;
  • Overseeing the development of integrated and comprehensive unimodal or multi-modal transportation plans, programs and activities for movement of goods or people; and more!

We're looking for someone who is savvy in data collection and reporting and will rely on this professional to assist with writing and tracking agreements including contract negotiations and budget-related items.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in transportation civil engineering or transportation, urban, regional or environmental planning.
  • One (1) year of the General Experience must include individual responsibility for the coordination of complex planning projects in a relevant planning area.
  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  • A Master's degree in civil engineering, transportation, urban, regional or environmental planning may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.

Preferred:

  • Experience with bus service planning and bus operations.
  • Experience with budget development and/or contract negotiations. 
  • Experience interacting with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
  • Experience with application of state and federal rules and requirements.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Experience with writing and tracking agreements.
  • Experience with governmental procurements and agreement processes.
  • Experience communicating in writing and verbally to diverse populations and with a diverse group of public transportation stakeholders.
  • Experience prioritizing work and meeting time sensitive deadlines.
