Transportation Planner

Position summary: JMT is seeking a creative, highly motivated Transportation Planner to support our growing transportation planning practice. This is a unique opportunity to help deliver innovative transportation plans and solutions for both public and private sector clients across Delaware and the mid-Atlantic region. The successful candidate will report for work assignments in either our Newark, DE or Dover, DE offices.

 

The ideal candidate will have an interest in active transportation planning and design, community outreach, and be skilled in GIS, technical writing, graphic design, and report preparation. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplined team of planning and engineering professionals. The candidate will work on a variety of multi-modal transportation projects that combine transportation planning, urban planning, traffic engineering, and land use planning to develop plans and projects that solve the planning problems of today and tomorrow.

Responsibilities
  • Provides technical support and assistance to Senior Planners and/or Project Managers as needed on ongoing transportation design and planning projects
  • Assists and/or manages, with supervisory input and oversight, in the preparation of planning documents including Feasibility Studies, Transportation Plans, Concept Studies, Corridor Plans, Impact Assessments, Transportation Master Plans, etc., as well as PEL and NEPA documents and technical reports
  • Creating/contributing content including text, illustrations, infographics, maps, 3-D models, and other graphic visualizations for; proposals, reports, memoranda, presentations, conceptual drawings, maps, graphics - for technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Collects, analyzes, and creates GIS data, mapping, web applications.
  • Applying knowledge of research and statistical methods;
  • Researching/collecting, tabulating, analyzing, and presenting data;
  • Applying knowledge of basic concepts and principles of transportation planning;
  • Participates in preparation of public involvement strategies and materials, and participates in public/stakeholder outreach and engagement activities
  • Supports and/or participates in field review and data collection activities
Qualifications
Required Skills
  • Proficiency or familiarity with GIS mapping software (ESRI products), graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency or familiarity with SketchUp, AutoCADD and/or Microstation and other similar planning software
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, urban planning, regional planning, community planning, environmental planning, geography, public policy or administration, landscape architecture, engineering, or other closely related field

 

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s degree in transportation planning, urban planning, regional planning, community planning, environmental planning, geography, public policy or administration, landscape architecture, engineering, or other closely related field
  • Experience with a variety of transportation planning concepts, practices, regulations, and procedures.
