Transit System Innovation Planner (Planner III)

This posting will be used to fill a Full Time, Permanent, Transportation System Innovation Planner (Planner III).

It is responsible supervisory and complex professional work in the field of Transportation Planning.

Responsible for directing and coordinating activities within the Office of Transportation with a major focus on roads and long range transportation planning.

Work involves responsibility for planning, scheduling, and conducting major planning projects or zoning processes. Work includes responsibility for defining project questions or problems, designing project methods and procedures, and carrying through to completion major planning assignments. Supervision may be exercised over Planner I and Planner II and paraprofessional subordinates when assigned to assist in surveying, researching, and drafting written reports, legislation, or related graphic materials.

Work programs and objectives are set forth by a lead person or supervisor, but the employee exercises considerable initiative and judgment in carrying out assigned projects. Work may also include directing the collection, analysis, and compilation of technical data into plans to meet future County needs and the review of developer submitted plans. Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in planning or a closely related field; four (4)or more years' experience in professional planning and zoning work or a related field; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Supplemental Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

1.) Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, goals and objectives of urban, regional or community and transportation planning.

2.) Experience overseeing public transit programs, funding opportunities, and grant writing are desirable

3.) Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

4.) Advanced computer and software skills, including strong knowledge of Grants.gov, SAP, NeoGov, SPEED, ProjectWise, and Microsoft office packages, are preferred.

5.) Two (2)+ years' experience overseeing public transit programs, funding opportunities, and grant writing are desirable.

7.) Two (2) + years' experience interpreting and interacting with federal, state, and local agencies (i.e., DOT, FTA, OSHA, etc.).
