R McGhee & Associates Architects is an African-American owned firm based in the heart of Washington DC, specializing in historic preservation, architecture, and urban design. R McGhee & Associates Architects is looking for a student intern. Must be in third or fourth year of undergrad, or in the Master of Architecture program. This position requires the intern to be in the office a minimum of four hours per day, two days per week.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
• Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning.
• Be an engaged member of the design team for project concept and delivery
• Assist with project schedules, field measurements and site visits.
• Aid in the preparation of presentation materials, producing digital and physical models, and
production of construction documents
• Support project team through all phases from proposal through construction.
• Works under the supervision of a Registered Architect.
• Assist with coordination of Lunch & learns and other admin tasks
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in Architecture program or equivalent degree (and experience)
- Working towards bachelor’s or related field and in their third or fourth year of a bachelor’s program or in a master’s program.
Preferred:
- WORK experience is beneficial but not required – creative curiosity is required.
- Exhibits design skills and is self-starting, energetic, and creative
- Some model-making, SketchUp, Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign skills
- Strong graphic and design talent
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Valid work permit (USA)
