Senior Planner (Preservation)

Implements comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances and programs for utilization of land and physical facilities of the City and surrounding areas by performing the following duties: Acts as staff public contact for BAR (Board of Architectural Review) and DRB (Design Review Board) inquiries assessing projects for immediate approval, or referral to the City Architect/Preservation Officer or Board review. Processes BAR and DRB applications by reviewing requirements with applicants and assisting with plan modifications. Assists the City Architect/Preservation Officer in processing project reviews, and in preparing for BAR Board meetings including preparation of PowerPoint presentations. Investigates violations, and acts as liaison with the public, to explain and enforce related Ordinances and assist with administrative procedures and regulations. Monitors construction projects through site inspections including final review of approved projects for comparison with approved documents. Attends BAR Board meetings.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation, Architecture, Urban Planning or related field and one year related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Knowledge of architectural preservation measures and general knowledge of construction methods and techniques. Design sensibility, and ability to critique architectural design proposals of varying scale. Ability to read and understand architectural drawings. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills required. Valid state issued driver’s license. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
