We are seeking a Senior Manager of Business Development to lead fundraising and business development efforts that help Forth secure the financial support it needs to carry out its mission and grow its impact. The Senior Manager, Business Development manages funder cultivation, all funding proposals, business development proposals, new partnerships, and reporting.

We seek candidates who have demonstrated federal, state, and foundation development experience and are excellent team leaders. Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

 Grant & Proposal Development (50%) The Senior Manager, Business Development is responsible for Forth’s fundraising operations and execution. We’re looking for an experienced development professional who can collaborate on strategy and drive fundraising.

  • Prioritize and apply for a steady stream of funding opportunities—including grant, fee-for-service, and productization opportunities—that align with our strategic plan, budget needs, and evolving goals for existing and new projects.
  • Collaborate with our programs and policy teams to ensure proposal designs are responsive to and compliant with federal, state, and foundation requirements.
  • Negotiate grant and contract agreements and ensure requirements are flowed to cross-functional teams.
  • Establish, evaluate, and regularly update Forth’s program/service/product development process and menu of services.
  • Identify, maintain and establish best practices for Development reporting, including overseeing the development database, opportunity status and review, financial reporting, work planning, and other reporting requirements on behalf of the Business Development team.

Business Development (30%): The Senior Manager, Development will identify new project ideas and cultivate new sources of funding from government entities, foundations, and other partners.

  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and funder priorities; adjust fundraising strategies accordingly; and ensure appropriate staff are aware.
  • Develop and manage stakeholder relationships with key groups such as local government agencies, partners, community-based organizations, electric utilities, charging solution providers, and others. 
  • Develop and refine new project ideas to carry out objectives as aligned with the focus areas in the strategic plan. 

Leadership (20%) The Senior Manager, Business Development will oversee a team of three, with two direct reports. We’re looking for a motivational leader who can support staff and drive outstanding performance in support of the strategic plan. 

  • Provide guidance, direction, and coaching for direct reports.
  • Manage continuous improvement and performance evaluation processes; including goal setting, annual reviews, and professional development, using systems and guidelines established by Forth
  • Ensure team cohesion, effective strategy and tactics, efficient process, data-driven decision making, systems to set and track KPIs, and proactive communication with other teams. 
  • Actively promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion in Forth’s workplace culture and practices, development operations, and interactions with all stakeholders
  • Participate in board and committee meetings, as appropriate.
Qualifications

 Required:

  • A passion for Forth’s mission
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and understanding of key DEI concepts
  • Five to seven years of experience in development and/or fundraising; at least two years of experience managing or mentoring team members.
  • Bachelor’s degree or additional four years of experience in development and/or fundraising.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing fundraising and program budgets
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative
  • Valid driver’s license; willingness and ability to travel as needed

Helpful:

  • Advanced degree in business, nonprofit management or related field
  • Working knowledge of the electric vehicle field, or related fields such as sustainable energy or transportation.
  • Existing relationships with relevant stakeholders in the region and/or nationally.
  • Experience working in a non-profit with a mission-driven staff and board.
