Transportation and Mobility Planning is responsible for planning, designing, and operating the transportation and mobility infrastructure for the City and County of Denver (CCD). The division is responsible for programming changes to the city's multimodal transportation system. It also reviews, evaluates, implements, and maintains transportation system improvements. The staff in the Planning Division are leaders in urban transportation and work to implement the Mayor’s Mobility Action Plan.

Transportation and Mobility Planning team is seeking a qualified planning professional with expertise in multimodal transportation innovation; transit, Transportation Demand Management (TDM); concept design; and project management. This position is responsible for leading and supporting the implementation of the Transit Program. within the Transportation and Mobility Planning Division of the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI).

Position Salary Range $72,887.00 - $120,264.00 Starting Pay Based on experience and education
Responsibilities

As a Senior City Planner for the Transit program, duties would include:

  • Manage Denver’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program including development TDM plan review and compliance, program administration, and program buildout

  • Support long and short-term plans and designs involving transit and corridor transportation planning initiatives related to Bus Rapid Transit, Bus Priority, Bus Stop Improvements and Bus Frequency initiatives

  • Participates in the implementation of Mobility Programs and Projects and ensures that other programs/projects and applicable regulations, are consistent with the Denver Moves Plans principles and networks

  • Participate in the development review process to identify opportunities for developer-led transit and TDM improvements to the City

  • Create project scopes of work and schedules which may include preparation of existing conditions assessment, environmental research and assessment, public involvement, data analysis, timelines, and budget

  • Serve as a technical advisor to developers interpreting Denver’s TDM regulation, neighborhood groups, City Council, advocates, and other stakeholders on transit and TDM related issues

  • Facilitate meetings and/or presentations to bring together interested stakeholders to discuss proposed transportation planning initiatives, assess obstacles, evaluate opposing views and interests, and determine areas of support

Qualifications

About You

 

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Master’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Engineering, Public Policy and Administration or a directly related degree

  • Five years of professional experience in city or regional planning specifically related to transportation and infrastructure planning with at least two of those years specializing in transit planning and/or TDM

  • Self-motivated and motivated to help others. Strong mentoring skills to work with junior staff

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of the MUTCD, AASHTO, and NACTO design guidelines is preferred

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Engineering, or a related degree

  • Experience: Five (5) years of professional planning experience

  • Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

  • Equivalency:  One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
