Responsibilities

Key duties for this position include:

 Provides data analysis, visualization, and other research support as needed on multiple externally funded projects utilizing statistical and geospatial analysis tools and skills

 Compiles and summarizes research results, and develops technical reports and publications as required for projects including assisting with journal article submissions and the preparation of conference or professional presentations 

The Research Specialist/Research Data Analyst will work on research projects covering a range of transportation and environmental topics. These projects require strong data management, statistical/analytical, and geospatial analysis skills, with the ability to independently design and develop tools or models to achieve the research objectives, interpret analysis results, and present findings to the project teams, project sponsors and external audiences depending on the project.

This position is a shared appointment with the Rutgers Office of Research Analytics (ORA). ORA provides advanced statistical, spatial, economic, and technological tools to projects and programs throughout the NJ Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) and broader university. The office also provides a central repository for large, time-series and spatial datasets that are critical to many research areas. These resources can increase the competitiveness of grant applications and strengthen research, extension and outreach efforts. The mission of ORA is to bring cutting-edge, cost-effective analytical and technological research tools and techniques to bear on research and programmatic efforts at the NJAES, Rutgers University and the state.

The candidate filling this position may be initially assigned to support the Somerset County Investment Framework project, Morris County Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan, the Cumberland County Area Transit – Future of Mobility study and other projects as needed and assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

- Applicants should possess a Master’s degree, preferably in planning, data informatics, geospatial science or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

- Experience with data management and analytical/statistical software such as Excel, R, SAS, Tableau and other similar software is strongly preferred.

- Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy
