The mission of MCDOT is to move people and connect places with the best transportation choices and services. MCDOT is seeking a Planning Specialist III position that will serve in the Department of Transportation; Division of Transportation Engineering (DTE); Transportation Planning and Design Section. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of multimodal travel in Montgomery County. DTE is responsible for advancing the County’s multimodal transportation projects, with a focus on Complete Streets Design. Current county transportation priorities include advancing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), improving and expanding the County’s bicycle and pedestrian network, addressing safety in support of the County’s Vision Zero initiative and other transportation facilities. DTE advances multi modal transportation initiatives from feasibility to construction.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Support the transportation planning team on advancing multi modal transportation projects through the planning and design stages.
• Conduct and/or participate in a variety of multi-modal planning efforts such as site plan and traffic analysis review, data collection, coordination of project plans and documents including permits, ADA compliant design issues, and tracking project status and coordinating consultant teams and internal project teams.
• Take a lead role on communicating project highlights and milestones both internally and externally to the broader community and outside agencies, this includes creating maps, infographics, memorandum of understanding (MOU), project summaries, PowerPoint presentations, conceptual visualizations press releases, and social media content.
• Be responsible for maintaining all project web pages as well as coordinating many of the public engagement efforts for the Planning and Design Section.
The successful candidate will be familiar with transportation planning best practice guidelines and industry policy guidelines. The employee must be resourceful in developing methods for accomplishing planning objectives. Some studies will be complex and include sensitive community concerns and the successful candidate will be creative and sensitive in navigating competing interests and coming up with innovative and context sensitive solutions that will be supported by the public and varying governmental entities as well as private and public interest groups involved in the planning process.

• You have experience reviewing traffic and transportation analysis
• You are skilled in using a computer and automated office technology. This may include but is not limited to, knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Office 365), SharePoint, Adobe Creative Suite products (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), and online meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Adobe Connect, etc.),
• You are skilled in using mapping and/or design software. This may include but is not limited to, ArcGIS or CAD
• You have familiarity with preparing content for the web. Experience with web development is a plus.
