Planning Positions - Multiple Positions

The City of Chattanooga Department of City Planning is hiring for four exciting positions - Principal Planner, Planner 2, Capital Projects Coordinator, and Strategic Capital Planning Manager (links to the position descriptions are below). These positions are key members of our dynamic team that works across City departments to plan for and help implement solutions to the most pressing issues facing Chattanooga.

City Planning staff integrate and collaborate with Regional Planning Agency staff and work with staff across the City in plan implementation.

Responsibilities

Principal Planner - Apply before 04/04/2022

Working closely with planners across the department and staff across the city, the Principal Planner will play a key role in creating and executing short- and medium-term implementation plans. They will also assist with the implementation of long range plans, including the Regional Transportation Plan, area plans, strategic capital plan, multi-modal transportation plans, and others. Experience with the federal transportation funding process is preferred. The Principal Planner is the third of a three level planner series.

 

Planner 2 - Apply before 04/07/2022


The Planner 2 will work within the Community Planning & Design (CPD) division. CPD focuses on area planning, placemaking, and urban design. The division’s work program for the next few years will be focused on developing area plans that cover all of Hamilton County.  Applicants with the following experience are preferred: strong experience in physical land use planning and public engagement, public speaking and technical writing skills, experience in GIS, and a background in urban design, architecture, or landscape architecture. The Planner 2 is the second level of a three level planner series.

 

Capital Projects Coordinator - Apply before 04/08/2022


The Capital Projects Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and reporting on funded capital projects, and providing support for the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) process. Duties include: developing and maintaining a database of city-funded capital projects; using databases to report on project status and to track project delivery rates by department; and assisting capital project managers in creating capital project implementation plans.


Strategic Capital Planning Manager - Apply before 04/12/2022

The Strategic Capital Planning Manager leads the Capital Planning team as they plan, coordinate, finance and execute a strategic capital plan for the City of Chattanooga. Working across City departments and partner organizations, they will create a capital plan that serves short and long term interests of the City, emphasizing the importance of addressing infrastructure needs while building a more equitable City and investing in economic development projects and improvements that will provide a positive return on investment to the City.
