A Master's degree in planning, architecture, public policy, or a related field, from an accredited college or university plus ten years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience, including supervision of the planning operations for a large urban community is required. Registration as a Certified Planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners or similar profession is a plus.
