Parks Planner4 - Eastside Trails Coordinator

The full time Parks Planner 4 -Eastside Trails Coordinator position, much of the work will be performed in an office setting; however, a portion of the job will involve being outdoors in parks or on trails, sometimes in rough terrain and/or in inclement weather. Staff must be willing to travel as needed to accomplish assignments. Overnight travel is a requirement of this position. Some evening or weekend work maybe required.

In this role, you will coordinate, lead, and support trail projects in Eastern Washington. This position will manage trail planning efforts, develop and/or assist with preparing trail informational and communication materials, coordinate trail improvement efforts, and build relationships with local trail partners. The initial focus of this position is Eastern Washington; however, this position could also work on trail projects throughout the state.

Responsibilities

Eastside Trail Planning
• Coordinate and manage trail planning efforts in State Parks with an initial focus in Mt. Spokane and Riverside, work could also include statewide projects.
• The coordinator will prepare and give presentations, facilitate meeting and committees, and conduct inter and intra-agency coordination. The coordinator will need excellent communication and project management skills and enjoy working with the public.
• Contract out planning support services as needed: develop scope of work, coordinate with contracts office, contract management, and compliance.
• Integrate principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into trail projects, outreach, and planning.

Trail Partnerships, Stakeholder & Community Engagement
• Develop positive on-going working relationships with local stakeholders and partners including on-going outreach.

Public Meeting, Communications, Correspondence & Outreach
• Organize and facilitate public trail planning meetings, committee and/or webinars.
• Develop and implement outreach plans for projects.

Project Coordination & Development/Maintenance & Trail Sign/Maps
• Develop and coordinate trail sign assessments and plans for eastside trails as necessary. Coordinate and manage trail map development and updates. Coordinate and/or provide trail accessibility information as needed.

Funding & Other Trails Program Work
• Prepare eastside trail project updates for executive leadership, Commission briefings, and elected officials.

 

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate has:

Experience coordinating and leading stakeholder and community groups with varying viewpoints and perspectives.
Experience in natural resource-based trail planning and developing sign plans.
Experience in integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion values and practices into community engagement processes.
Experience managing budgets and preparing cost estimates for projects.
Project management experience
Knowledge of and experience with local, state, and federal regulations and permitting requirements related to trail project implementation.
Knowledge and experience working with trail accessibility standards and guidelines.
Other Competencies
Strong communication and outreach skills including the ability to listen, translate information and explain complex statutes and rules to the public, community groups, other agencies, and to the Commission.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, enjoys collaborating on a team.
Demonstrated ability to organize, facilitate, and implement recreation projects that include public process.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree involving major study in park planning, park administration, landscape architecture, land planning, environmental planning, environmental engineering, or other major with included course work in park planning, park administration, or related field.
AND

Three years of professional experience in park planning, trail planning, landscape architecture, environmental engineering, or similar professional work in land planning and/or park management.

Valid unrestricted driver's license.
