Responsibilities

This position is located in the Division of Hydropower Licensing in the Office of Energy Projects.  As an Outdoor Recreation Planner, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Serving as a project coordinator of multidisciplinary teams, analyzing information on recreation and land use resources as they relate to the construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of hydropower projects, making recommendations that are technically sound and thoroughly researched.
  • Preparing environmental documents that analyze a range of outdoor recreation and land use issues and balance competing resource needs.
  • Planning and executing meetings on recreation and land use matters with attorneys, biologists, recreation planners, and engineers from licensees, applicants for license, and local, state, and federal agencies.

You must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is defined as: experience preparing environmental documents or reports (such as Environmental Assessments or Environmental Impact Statements pursuant to NEPA, license or permit applications, or study plans and reports) related to proposals for water-based infrastructure such as dams, levees, surface water intakes, canals, hydropower projects, or flumes that assess the effects of water-based infrastructure on outdoor recreation-related issues such as public access, facility adequacy, satisfaction, aesthetics, or competing resources.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
