The Transportation & Mobility Planning (TMP) team is seeking a Planning Supervisor who will be responsible for the multimodal planning staff that develops safe, convenient, and comfortable infrastructure for walking and biking. The division is responsible for programming changes to the city's multimodal transportation system. The staff in the Planning Division are leaders in urban transportation and work to implement the Mayor’s Mobility Action Plan

Responsibilities

As the Planning Supervisor you will: 

  • Directly supervise a team of 4-6 staff including supporting their professional development, managing workload and schedules, performance evaluations, and training 

  • Drive innovation and best practices for multimodal transportation, pedestrian infrastructure, intersection safety, bicycle facilities, and mobility to keep Denver current in transforming streets for people 

  •  Supporting multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional planning efforts with the planning team, and be involved with projects such as Denver Moves, Vision Zero, and continue to focus on specialized city plans and planning principles 

  • Manage the City’s Intersection Safety Program 

  • Partner with the Planning Director to set work program and operational goals and strategies in order to advance the Mayor’s Mobility Action Plan and DOTI’s Strategic Goals through projects, programs and policies 

  • Be a leader in the Planning team, and build strategic relationships with staff across DOTI to better implement programs and projects 

  • Represent and participate in community meetings with our constituents, community partners, and City Council members  

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • Substantial experience in multimodal transportation planning including Citywide, area and corridor planning with a strong focus on pedestrian and bicycle planning, including innovative program development 

  • Established track record of supervising professional transportation planners and leading a team through high profile/political planning efforts 

  • Ability to analyze data and present with written and oral communication skills  

  • A strong level of interest in building community capacity to help build a safer, equitable, sustainable, healthier transportation environment for our constituents 

  • Leaderships skills and be adept at influencing team culture 

  • Understanding and experience with MUTCD, AASHTO, and NACTO design guidelines

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related degree 

 
Experience: Seven (7) years of professional planning experience 

 
License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. 
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment 

 

Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education 
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
