Managing Editor

Urban Omnibus, The Architectural League of New York’s unique, interdisciplinary publication committed to the collective work of citymaking, seeks a full-time Managing Editor to play a central role in its small editorial team.

Reporting to UO’s Editor in Chief, the Managing Editor has primary responsibility for the monthly digital publication’s editorial and administrative processes. They oversee the editorial pipeline, from receiving and soliciting pitches, to issuing contracts, image research, proofreading, managing the publication’s CMS, and more. The managing editor works with a wide range of contributors, while also contributing original research and writing, conducting interviews, and collaborating on general editorial strategy. They lead UO’s communications, including a weekly newsletter, social media, and audience engagement. With the Editor in Chief, the Managing Editor oversees a part-time Associate Editor, and participates in developing new features and UO’s special initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is ambitious, intellectually curious, and motivated to help chart the next years of the publication. Highly organized and independent, they pay keen attention to detail, have excellent interpersonal and electronic communications skills, and are intrepid researchers. We seek a candidate with both excellent writing and editing skills and substantial disciplinary knowledge of architecture and urbanism, with an academic degree and/or professional experience in a relevant field, and a deep interest in the role these play in the broader culture of the city. Skills and experience in media production, graphic design, or documentary arts are highly valued.
