Indianapolis Preservation Coordinator

The Indianapolis Preservation Coordinator works closely with the Vice President on the Endangered Places Program in central Indiana, including a revolving fund through which endangered buildings are acquired, rehabilitated, and resold with protective covenants. Related responsibilities include:

  • Working with design professionals on the review of construction specifications;
  • Solicitation of bids and coordination and supervision of construction work;
  • Marketing of properties through digital newsletter content and real estate showings;
  • Investigation of new acquisitions and negotiations with private individuals or government agencies for the acquisition of new properties;
  • Monitoring protective covenants on properties previously sold through the program.

In addition, the Indianapolis Preservation Coordinator is responsible for the following:

  • Provide a full range of preservation services in metro Indianapolis, focusing on issues such as smart growth, sustainability, neighborhood investment, and downtown revitalization;
  • Assisting advocacy efforts to save endangered landmarks in the greater Indianapolis area;
  • Engaging with urban neighborhoods and providing staff support to Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis (HUNI), a consortium of neighborhood associations located in or near downtown;
  • Planning and coordinating various educational and community programs, such as technical workshops or those associated with National Historic Preservation Month;
  • Assisting with technical assistance projects, developing content for Indiana Landmarks’ digital newsletter, and other programs as assigned.

Qualifications

knowledge of historic preservation principles and programs; Bachelor’s degree in historic preservation, or a related field, is required; Master’s degree is preferred.

•understanding of real estate and/or construction management practices;

•excellent organizational and communication skills, including regular public speaking; and general knowledge of computers, photography and grant writing.
