Homeownership Counselor

The Housing Partnership currently has a career opportunity for a Homeownership Specialist. The Homeownership Specialist will provide telephone and in-person information, guidance, and counseling to those seeking assistance in planning for and maintaining homeownership. Specifically, the Counselor will work with families to review credit, work on household budgets, and coach clients through the home buyer journey.

Responsibilities

Areas of Primary Responsibility:

Present homebuyer education seminars in English and Spanish throughout the year

Work with clients on a one-on-one basis to deliver budget and credit counseling tailored to each client’s unique circumstances

Assist clients with identifying resources that may be available to them to help them achieve homeownership

Work with households facing foreclosure and assist them in submitting modification request

Follow up with clients to ensure they are following through on their goals and action plans

Create, maintain and update client files, both in the database and hard copies.

Assist with the coordination of special events throughout the year.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

Bi-Lingual (English and Spanish)

Ability to communicate both verbal and written fashion in English and Spanish

Public Speaking experience

Experience in organizing seminars and preparing PowerPoint presentations

Knowledge of mortgage application, home buying, and foreclosure process

Demonstrated ability to work one on one with clients and be able to assess clients situations to address obstacles they may be facing

Excellent organizational skills

Analytic skills to assist clients in reaching their goals and navigate them through the home buying process

Ability to work independently

Proficiency in analyzing numbers, calculations, and financing

Computer literacy and keyboard proficiency, including Word, Excel. PowerPoint

Ability to work several evenings a month with advance notice. Weekend hours may be required occasionally with advance notice.

Able to travel for week-long national training's at least twice a year

Skills and Knowledge

· Knowledge of affordable housing issues, background, and guidelines

· Knowledge of Morris County municipalities and the region

· Knowledge of Morris County agencies and organizations

· Experience in community outreach
