Historic Preservation Technical Specialist

The Division’s Technical Services Unit is responsible for providing technical services for the restoration, rehabilitation, and preservation of privately and publicly owned historic properties, including buildings, structures, landscapes, and objects. Incumbent provides comments on the effects of federal or state undertakings on the historic built environment in accordance with federal and New York state regulations.

Applicant must have a thorough understanding of the application of the National Register of Historic Places criteria for evaluation and the application and interpretation of the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. In addition, the candidate should be versed in Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation/Restoration, Structural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, AND at least two years full-time experience in architecture; or a State license to practice architecture. Experience with Section 106 and/or Federal Investment Tax Credit Programs preferred.

Substitution: A Bachelor’s in any field and a master’s degree in Architecture/Architectural Preservation, Historic Preservation/Restoration, or Landscape- Architecture/Landscape Preservation can substitute for one (1) year of experience.
