Historic Preservation Specialist

Our hourly positions offer exposure to a wide range of state and national historic
preservation programs. Hourlies take an active part in procedures such as:

• Evaluation of properties for National Register eligibility (fieldwork may be required).
• Technical assessment of project plans for conformance to the Secretary of Interior’s
Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
• Develop or retrieve data for properties considered to be eligible for inclusion in the
New Jersey Register of Historic Places.
• Assist in developing our GIS system.

Hourly positions are flexible and offer a total of 900 hours per State fiscal year (July 1-July1). The HPO asks that hourly staff be available to work over the course of the year (approximately 2-3 days per week).

Please note, HPO staff is currently working remotely for the foreseeable future. Applicants must be available to work remotely with the option to work in person as the staff is recalled to work in the office.

Qualifications
  • Masters degree, completed or in progress, in architectural history, history, or closely related field, with demonstrated course work in American architecture. Experience with NJ architecture or architecture of the northeast is a plus.
