Historic Preservation Specialist

Under general direction, is responsible for coordination of Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) cases, recommendations and meetings. Responsible for administration of public education initiatives, performing research, and working on special projects. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

Responsibilities
  • Researches, collects, analyzes, and interprets data and summarizes data and develops recommendations.
  • Responds to department requests for information, as well as from the general public.
  • Coordinates administration of HDRC cases, case recommendations, meeting agendas, packets, HDRC sub-committee and on-site meetings, as needed.
  • Creates, plans, and coordinates special events and educational outreach programs, including negotiating with vendors and venues and advertising and promoting these.
  • Manages projects to completion with supervision.
  • Communicates through various methods within the department and to the public.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in urban planning, historic preservation, customer service, or related field.
  • Valid Class "C" Driver's License.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Historic Preservation, Architecture, or a related field. 
  • Experience in architectural design or design review. 
  • Experience in the treatment of historic properties.
