Historian - Clara Barton's Legacy

Be part of an exciting National Park Service (NPS) team guiding the future stewardship and management of the Clara Barton National Historic Site (NHS), a National Historic Landmarks property. This is a temporary position, the special hiring authority

• Professional experience in NHPA compliance procedures, especially related to negotiating cooperative and interagency agreements and other cooperative instruments needed to effectively carry out resource stewardship goals.
• Knowledge and understanding of how to apply the National Register Criteria for Evaluation and experience in completing SHPO survey and evaluation forms
• Knowledge and understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
• Knowledge of the laws, regulations, policies, and procedures that govern cultural resources management
• Experience working with the National Historic Landmarks program
• Knowledge of methods and practices in related fields such as museum management, archeology, cultural anthropology, historical architecture, historical landscape architecture, and natural resources management
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment that includes architectural historians, archaeologists, environmental planners, and engineers
• Ability to write in manuscript format at a level acceptable for professional publications, and to express thoughts and present data clearly and to develop ideas in logical sequence in research studies, surveys, reports, management plans, instructions, guides, etc.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with professional and non-professional audiences.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• BA/BS Degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
• MA degree in Public History, History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience working as a historian.
• The qualified applicant must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards 36 CFR 61 as an Architectural Historian or Historian.
• Robust research, technical writing, and communication skills
• Strong attention to detail when both authoring and reviewing work
• Fluent in Microsoft Office/Office 365 applications
