Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF)Specialist

This specialized heritage resource position within the EHP Cadre supports the HENTF Coordinator in achieving OEHP’s goals to deliver FEMA mission priorities. This CORE position is a temporary appointment in the Excepted Service, not to exceed 2 years, with the option to extend based on workload and funding availability.

Over the past five years, since FEMA’s OEHP partnered with the Smithsonian Cultural Rescue Initiative (SCRI), the Heritage Emergency National Task Force has been working with cultural stewards and emergency managers to protect cultural heritage in our nation’s states, tribes, territories, and local communities from the damaging effects of natural disasters and other emergencies.

Responsibilities

As the program matures, HENTF strives to:

• Expand its internal collaboration with FEMA offices and programs, including OEHP, Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, and Hazard Mitigation Assistance;

• Strengthen its pre- and post-disaster coordination with other federal entities, including the Smithsonian Institution, the Department of the Interior in support of ESF #11 and the Natural & Cultural Resources Recovery Support Function, and HENTF’s 18 federal-agency members;

• Better engage HENTF’s membership to assist state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments and cultural and historic private nonprofit organizations as they prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate damage to cultural heritage.
