Historic Denver, Inc. seeks a Director of Preservation Resources to help implement the organization’s advocacy agenda, provide resource information to property owners of historic properties, manage existing technical assistance programs, and more.
Position Responsibilities:
§ Serve as the Preservation team-leader, engaging up to three other staff members in regular planning related to the organization’s Strategic Vision
§ Manage Historic Denver’s Action Fund, which includes developing criteria for project selection, building relationships with community groups, and developing strategies that advance community preservation goals.
§ Develop protocols for outreach and engagement with the owners of properties identified as potentially significant through on-going survey work
§ Implement the 50th Anniversary advocacy campaign, seeking 50 places worthy of recognition and preservation action in the future and reflective of the diversity in the city’s history
§ Work with the Executive Director as an advocate for preservation in municipal planning efforts, redevelopment projects involving historic properties, and in responding to demolition notices
§ Attend hearings and legislative sessions as needed
§ Serve as an organizational spokesperson on advocacy matters as needed
§ Build and maintain relationships with policy makers, including elected officials
§ Provide regular preservation content for organizational communications, including newsletters and electronic publications
§ Engage in education and outreach to build the constituency for historic preservation
§ Perform other duties as assigned
Desirable skills and experience include: bachelors or master’s degree in historic preservation, architecture, urban planning, history or related field; knowledge of historic preservation values, techniques, and resources; strong communication skills, including extensive written and verbal communications; past work in a political environment, including interaction with elected officials; comfort with public speaking; ability to work effectively with a team and meet deadlines; flexibility and ability to respond to urgent issues; strong organizational skills.
