The Designer for our Historic Preservation Team must be able to apply sound and diverse knowledge of architectural principles and practices in a broad array of assignments and related fields. They must be able to contribute on projects from start to finish, collaborate with project team members, while exhibiting responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work assignments.

Responsibilities

• Model firm values of responsiveness, creativity, and professionalism

• Assist with development of design and technical aspects of historic projects from concept through construction, including regulatory reviews.

• Perform historic research, hands-on condition assessment, and material analysis

• Technical writing which may include preparation of National Register nominations, Determinations of Eligibility, condition assessment reports, Historic Structure Reports, Building Preservation Plans, and historic specifications.

• Engage in architectural projects by providing construction document production and research for the preparation of specifications.

• Provide research and support for the preparation of cost opinions

• Attend Owner / Architect / Contractor meetings throughout the duration of the project, including during construction

• Consult with Supervisor regarding unusual complexities and developments

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in architecture

• Degree in Historic Preservation or closely related field or equivalent experience or interest is a plus

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working in an architectural practice is a plus

• Experience working within Secretary of the Interiors Standards is a plus

• Experience with National Park Service is a plus

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Understanding of Revit and AutoCAD in creating and developing construction documents

• Effective communication and organizational skills

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point)

• Experience with Sketch-up or other comparable modeling software

• Specification writing, experience with BSD Spec link is a plus

• Experience with cost estimating at the programmatic phase and throughout construction document phase

• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills

• Accurate attention to detail
