DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

PS Ventures, LLC. (PSV) is looking for a talented and flexible architectural designer with strong organizational skills willing to take a leading role in the design, development, and construction of cutting-edge sustainable communities. PSV stands for Passionate and Sustainable Ventures and is aboutique development firm with a mission to help design and develop buildings that are more resilient, more durable, and more efficient utilizing building science and Passive House building principals.

PSV is currently working on two of the largest Passive House mixed-use, mixed-income projects in Maryland. With one project about to begin construction and another at the start of design development, PSV is hiring. We are looking for an individual with experience in architectural design and an interest in real estate development related project management to help bring these projects to fruition. The applicant should have digital drawing and rendering skills, excellent graphic, verbal, and written communication skills, and be self motivated with a “can do” attitude. Attention to detail is critical.

Applicants at all levels of career engagement are welcome to apply including recent undergraduates (so long as applicants meet the qualification requirements). This position will offer between 20 - 30 hours of part-time employment to start, with an opportunity for expansion to full-time based on evidence of skill and team needs. This is a hybrid position which offers a combination of in-person and remote work on a to be agreed upon schedule. Primary projects are located in Montgomery County, Maryland and site visits are to be expected.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Creating 2D and 3D design documents to convey owner intent to the design team.

● Creating diagrams and supplemental images for submission of designs to stakeholders, planners,and the general public.

● Preparing presentations on project design and Passive House design principles for internal team use as well as public dissemination.

● Coordination and follow-up with all disciplines in the design team and serving as owner’s

advocate in coordination meetings. (Project Management)

● Reviewing and providing design feedback on documents submitted by the design team including Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP), Architectural, and Civil drawings.

● Researching and providing Basis of Design (BOD) recommendations for building systems and fixtures as required.

● Assisting in the wording and construction of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for various discipline as well as the review of various contracts and other legal documents.

● Prepare submissions for grant applications for projects as necessary.

Qualifications

● Be detail-oriented and able to think critically about drawings, RFPs, and other design documents.

● Manage time effectively and be flexible to aid in any part of the development process.

● Be willing to contribute to design discussions and to learn new skills in all areas of development.

● Be able to work independently and creatively while also being comfortable with collaboration.

● Have an understanding and appreciation for building science OR be willing to gain the same.

● Have experience with most or all of the following programs:

○ SketchUp Pro AutoCAD

○ Revit Bluebeam

○ Adobe Suite Google Suite

○ Microsoft Office Suite

 

PREFERRED

● Have experience designing multifamily residential buildings and mixed-use campuses.

● Have experience with real estate development and knowledge of the development process.

 

EDUCATION

● Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Architecture, Real Estate Development, or another related field (Required).

● LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD or

Equivalent)(Preferred). Willingness to earn such credentials after hire is acceptable.

● Masters or equivalent in Architecture, Real Estate Development, or another related field (Helpful

but not required. Masters candidates are encouraged to apply).

EXPERIENCE

● 2+ years hands on drafting experience including in school work (Preferred).
